I’m pleased to announce Der Wolf dem niemand glaubte: Ein neu erzähltes Märchen (The Wolf Nobody Believed: A Fairy Tale Retold), the German translation of The Wolf Who Cried Boy, by professional translator Nathalie Schon. (I’ve updated the About page to include her in the Translators biographies.)
The book is available now on Amazon on Kindle and in paperback. The Kindle eBook will be free on Amazon via KDP Select from Wednesday, July 17, 2024, through Sunday, July 21, 2024.
I was surprised to discover that the classic Aesop’s fable The Boy Who Cried Wolf is not well-known in Germany. The story is commonly known in German as Der Hirtenjunge und der Wolf (The Shepherd Boy and the Wolf) and Der Schäfer und der Wolf (The Shepherd and the Wolf) but the Google search traffic for these titles is extremely low. Reversing the title as I did with the English version does not work since the reverse is simply Der Wolf und der Hirtenjunge (The Wolf and the Shepherd Boy) and Der Wolf und der Schäfer (The Wolf and the Shepherd), which doesn’t impart any deeper meaning. Therefore, the translator created a new title since the story is about a lying wolf. I’m hoping many German children will discover this classic tale through my work.
