This is the Alux. I created this cryptid creature / monster art for Fairytales and Myths.
Aluxes are fairy, goblin-like creatures that can be violent and mischievous.
Illustrating this creature was tricky since I wasn’t sure which direction to go with the character design. Most depictions of this Mayan myth either go with cute gnomes or ugly goblins. Obviously, I went the latter route, but I wanted to give features that stood out, hence the overly large orb-like eyes.
